Funding Finder for Small & Mid-Size Systems

There is money set aside for your water system. Most small systems never claim a dollar of it.

From 2011 to 2020, just 7.1% of DWSRF-eligible systems — 4,721 of 66,552 — received assistance. The barrier is rarely the award. It is that nobody has time to find the program and file for it. (Environmental Policy Innovation Center, 2021 — pre-infrastructure-law.)

Put in your PWSID. We match your size, type, state, and compliance record against every major federal and state program.

What a match actually looks like

Illustrative examples built from real program rules — not customer stories.

Illustrative scenario

1,900-person groundwater district, service lines unknown

Surfaces: infrastructure-law lead funds, DWSRF disadvantaged-community forgiveness, free set-aside assistance to write the application.

Why it matters: the identification work itself is fundable — most systems assume only replacement counts.

Illustrative scenario

600-person system that just detected PFAS

Surfaces: DWSRF emerging-contaminant funds, EPA money reserved for small or disadvantaged systems, USDA Water & Waste Disposal.

Why it matters: planning and pilot costs are usually eligible too, and those come first.

Illustrative scenario

2,300-person system with no engineering report

Surfaces: USDA predevelopment planning grants, which exist to break exactly this deadlock, plus free RCAP and circuit-rider help.

Why it matters: the planning grant is the cheapest entry into the funding pipeline, and small systems routinely don’t know it exists.

Common questions

Is this just a list of grants I could Google?

No. Free directories are keyword search — you still read every program and work out whether a system your size in your state qualifies. Orevant starts from your PWSID: your population, type, source water, state, and compliance findings decide what shows up and in what order.

Can you guarantee we’ll get funded?

No, and be skeptical of anyone who does. Agencies make award decisions. What we do is make sure the reason you didn’t get money is never that nobody told you it existed. Every match says “likely eligible — confirm with the agency.”

We’re tiny and have no grant writer. Is this still worth it?

That’s who it’s built for. The free match includes the free-assistance programs — RCAP, circuit riders, state set-aside help — that will help you apply at no cost.

How current is this?

13 standing programs, each reviewed against its agency source (catalog grants-2026.08, last reviewed Aug 18, 2026). Open federal opportunities come from a live Grants.gov feed refreshed daily.
